Judges Matter!

By catherine,

Only vote for the Pro-Choice/Endorsed candidates! Only vote for 2 Supreme Court candidates, Fran Connolly and Rolf Thorsen

Let party leaders know You Are Watching and VOTING! The Democratic Party is letting pro-choice voters down. Just look at Brooklyn where their excuse for supporting an anti-choice woman for NYS Supreme Court is that they didn’t know. Really??? She had published an article opposing the Roe v. Wade decision.

Right here in Westchester, we know because Choice Matters and WCLA PAC make sure party leaders know who can and cannot be trusted with our reproductive healthcare decisions. They chose to ignore us when it came to Supreme Court nominees this year. Not acceptable.

For Supreme Court, VOTE for Fran Connolly and Rolf Thorsen, and for Westchester County Court VOTe for Anne Bianchi

Women – The Answer to This Year’s Election

By catherine,

The Answer to This Election Lies in the
Hands of Women Voters!

When I go door-to-door for our candidates what stands out most is that 7 out of 9 voters in odd year elections are women, most over the age of 50!

All I can say is, “Where are the women under 50???” The message is clear, “Get your (female) friends out to vote, and we will win!!!”

Why should they vote?
Because we have more pro-choice female candidates running for all offices in Westchester County than ever before…and they are amazing!

Our Stars
Rachelle Rocky Richard is running in District 14 (part of Yonkers and Mount Vernon). Rocky is challenging 18-year-incumbent Bernice Spreckman who pretended that she stood with us until the very first vote for Choice when she, Spreckman, voted against the women of Westchester. Spreckman betrayed us when she voted against safe access for women entering Reproductive Health Care Facilities. Why? Because Spreckman votes in lockstep with right-to-life extremist County Executive Astorino and because she wants to secure her son’s job who works – he works for Astorino.

WHO WON?  Astorino and Her Son! (FYI: Spreckman is also absent 41% of the time from County Board and Committee meetings – What a waste of tax payer dollars!)

WHO LOST? Women!!!  Spreckman voted against women because of her personal interest, her son’s job.

SPRECKMAN – NO INTEGRITY NEEDED – She flip-flops on her positions and her votes are up for sale!

The Answer to this Corruption is to VOTE FOR RACHELLE ROCKY RICHARD. (Click here to read about Rocky’s extensive experience working in government, starting with her employment for the late Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan.)

In the Town of Cortlandt, we have an amazing candidate running for Town Court Justice, Shari Gordon.  Shari will be the first woman in the 225 years of Cortlandt Township to serve as Town Justice, if you come out and voteShari is running against a 25+ year incumbent who released a man on bail who shot his wife in the stomach. Not until domestic violence complainants and legal experts offered advice did the incumbent, Shari’s opponent, change his decision and revoke the bail option. Then there was his ridiculous call on a High School senior prank. Shari’s opponent thought that a senior prank – a tradition of doing something silly just before graduation – deserved being arraigned and being passed on to Westchester’s District Attorney. This opponent’s judgment is questionable at best.

Catherine Parker is running in District 7 (Rye City, Mamaroneck Town, Larchmont, and parts of Harrison, the Village of Mamaroneck, New Rochelle and Rye Town). Catherine, who presently serves on the Rye City Council, is a strong voice for Choice. Her opponent is anti-choice and will vote in lockstep with extremist County Executive Astorino. If elected, Catherine will replace Judy Myers who is retiring.

Alfreda Williams is running unopposed in District 8 (parts of Elmsford, Sleepy Hollow, Tarrytown, White Plains, Greenburgh and Mt. Pleasant). Alfreda has done invaluable work for the Westchester’s women and families as Chair of the Community Services Committee. Alfreda was a co-sponsor of the Reproductive Health Care Facilities Access Law which was vetoed by anti-choice extremist County Executive Astorino.

Catherine Borgia is running in District 9 (Croton, Town and Village of Ossining, parts of Briarcliff Manor and Cortlandt). Catherine was a co-sponsor of the Reproductive Health Care Facilities Access Law which was vetoed by anti-choice extremist County Executive Astorino.  Her opponent is anti-choice and will vote as directed to by Astorino.

Mary Jo Jacobs is running in District 10 (Tuckahoe and parts of New Rochelle and Eastchester).  Mary Jo is pro-choice. Her opponent was endorsed by the Right to Life 9th Judicial District Committee and opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest or to save the woman’s life.

MaryJane Shimsky is running unopposed in District 12, (Ardsley, Dobbs Ferry, Hastings, Irvington and parts of the Unincorporated Town of Greenburgh). MaryJane was a co-sponsor of the Reproductive Health Care Facilities Access Law which was vetoed by anti-choice extremist County Executive Astorino.

Two Male Candidates Worthy of Special Mention
Stavros Pantelis is running in District 11 (Pelham, Pelham Manor and parts of New Rochelle) against a dishonest self-serving politician. Pantelis’ opponent used Choice Matters’ past endorsements to run unchallenged for years. But at the very first vote in his entire time in office, this opponent, Jim Maisano, voted against women and Choice. He voted in lockstep with RTL County Executive to deny women the most basic of rights – safe access to health care.

Delfim Heusler is running in District 15 (Bronxville and parts of Yonkers and Eastchester). Delfim is a strong pro-choice voice whose opponent is best known for being arrested in 2010 for cocaine possession, and for co-sponsoring an anti-choice women’s event at the County office building. You can find Delfim on the Working Families line, Row D. Delfim has the courage to challenge a corrupt legislator without the blessing of one of the two major parties. Thank you, Delfim!

We can put a Stop to these Anti-Choice Extremists by Electing Pro-Choice Women! We’re ready to say a permanent goodbye to some of the County’s most anti-woman legislators!

Let’s deliver a knock-out blow and put pro-choice women in office across the County. It’s time to make the biggest impact we can.   DONATE TODAY.

2013 Pro-Choice Voting Guide Endorsements

By catherine,

WCLA PAC, the political action committee that makes its endorsements based on the candidate ratings made by the Board of Directors of WCLA – Choice Matters, is proud to announce its endorsements in the 2013 Elections.

Westchester County Executive
NOAM BRAMSON (D,W,I)
Noam Bramson has a history of advocating for women’s reproductive rights.

In contrast, Bramson’s opponent was endorsed by the Right to Life 9th Judicial District Committee and opposes abortion even in cases of rape, incest or to save the woman’s life.

On a county level, the position of the County Executive is very important. Bramson’s opponent vetoed a law that would have given women safe access to reproductive health centers, whether they were going for cancer screenings or abortions.

Bramson’s opponent, Rob Astorino, does not believe women are entitled to the most basic of rights – safe access to health care. In addition Bramson’s opponent opposes comprehensive sex ed, cut funding to those programs, and instead focuses on abstinence-only education.

District Attorney
JANET M. DIFIORE (D,W,I)

County Clerk
TIMOTHY C. IDONI (D,W)
As Mayor, Idoni welcomed Planned Parenthood’s new offices to New Rochelle.

Westchester County Legislature
We have more pro-choice women running for office here in Westchester County than ever before!

Particular appreciation and attention goes to Rachelle “Rocky” Richard who is running in District 14 against an 18-year incumbent. This incumbent claimed to be pro-choice but – at the very first vote in her entire time in office – she voted against women and Choice. She voted with this RTL County Executive to deny women safe access to reproductive health centers. (This opponent, Bernice Spreckman, does whatever the County Executive wants – maybe that’s because her son works for him!)

And a special thank you also goes out to Stavros Pantelis who is running in District 11 against a dishonest self-serving politician. Pantelis’ opponent used Choice Matters’ past endorsements to run unchallenged for years. But at the very first vote in his entire time in office, this opponent, Jim Maisano, voted against women and Choice. He voted in lock-step with this RTL County Executive to deny women the most basic of rights – safe access to health care.
