WCLA PAC ENDORSES GARCIA & OQUENDO-THOMAS
Jeannette Garcia is running for NYS Assembly in District #90 (most of Yonkers).
Leslye Oquendo-Thomas is running forWestchester County Board of Legislators in District #17.
WCLA PAC is proud to endorse Democrats Jeannette Garcia and Leslye Oquendo-Thomas because of their experience, dedication, and grit. They are engaged in all aspects of community life and are fighting for the people of Yonkers. Jeannette Garcia and Leslye Oquendo-Thomas are determined leaders with a passionate personal commitment to women’s rights and social and economic justice – each with a strong moral compass knowing right from wrong.
Both women chose to run in districts that have open seats: the Assembly incumbent is retiring and the incumbent County Legislator is not seeking re-election. But, despite this, there have been brazen attempts to “dissuade” them from running.
These brave women have already stood their ground speaking truth to power amidst threats, intimidation, and retribution, proving they cannot be bought. They have demonstrated their tenacity to fight for their constituents, and truly believe that the citizens of Yonkers deserve transparency and accountability from their leaders, as well as free and fair elections.
Jeannette Garcia is an attorney and labor organizer. Her life’s work has been dealing with the needs of the community and social justice. She stood shoulder-to-shoulder on the frontlines with the nurses fighting for a living wage and helped organize more than 500 residents to demand accountability and stronger community protections from developers.
Jeannette Garcia has the experience and commitment to advance comprehensive health care for all.
Jeannette’s opponent failed to advocate for reproductive health care and sexuality education when it mattered most – when he was in a position to have an impact. In this time of crisis, we need our elected officials to lead – not run from conflict. (More about Jeannette.)
Leslye Oquendo-Thomas grew up navigating the very systems she now works to improve. A trilingual small business owner, mother of two, public servant, and longtime Yonkers resident, she has spent over a decade inside city government fighting for families facing housing instability, benefit delays, and bureaucratic roadblocks.
With deep community roots and a proven record of delivering results, Leslye is ready to make government work for working families from Day One. Leslye would bring keen insight and experience to the County Board.
Leslye’s opponent is anti-choice and believes in harsh limitations on abortion. (More about Leslye.)
