Don’t Let Them Distract You!
With all eyes on the 2016 presidential candidates, and the anti-choice zealots in Congress battling to de-fund Planned Parenthood, voters are missing something, right now – the 2015 local elections. These elections may not seem exciting but they are very important – and that’s why it’s necessary to help fund the Yellow ProChoice Voting Guide!
Local elections determine your daily life. Who’s going to serve as judge and who will be your county legislator? Will we have a board that can override the County Executive’s destructive, anti-woman’s reproductive health agenda?
Because you get our emails, I’m assuming you care about women’s reproductive rights and independence.
Therefore, you should care that the judges who are elected should not be anti-woman when they decides probate questions or when anti-choice extremists block women’s access to clinics.
You can elect legislators on November 3rd and give us a majority of pro-choice legislators on the County Board to pass the clinic access bill with a super majority so that we can override the anti-choice County Executive’s inevitable veto.
In 2012, we didn’t have that and, in turn, we lost – we couldn’t override Astorino’s veto of the Clinic Access bill. We couldn’t protect Westchester’s women.
Also in the 2012, we didn’t have the votes to stop Astorino’s devastating budget cuts. He gutted all the funding to the three neighborhood health centers. To put that in perspective, that is like cutting funding to Planned Parenthood. These clinics provide services to the ever-growing number of working poor who cannot, just because funding is cut, go somewhere else. Many women rely on these clinics for contraceptives, pap smears, and cancer screenings, among other things. Their children go for check-ups, immunizations, and so much more.
We weren’t able to stop Astorino then because we didn’t have the necessary votes.
You can make the difference on November 3rd.
How? By helping us get the Bright Yellow ProChoice Voting Guide out to the tens of thousands of pro-choice voters in our database.
The people you elect will stand with Planned Parenthood, with our community health centers, and they will vote for the Clinic Access Bill.
